SIR CLIFTON ROBINSON. By Telegraph.— Pres3 Association.— Copyright. (Received November 8, 9.20 a.m.) NEW YORK, 7th November. Sir Clifton Robinson, nanaging director of the London United EJectric Tram-wa-ys, died in a New York street car. [.Sir Clifton Robinson, Associate of the Institute of Civil Engineers and a member of the Institute of Electrical Engineers/was engineer (as well as managing director) of the London United Electric Tramways, and engineer of the Bristol Electric Tramways, and director of the Metropolitan District, Underground Railways of London, and Oorrk Railways. Born in 1848, he had a hand in the construction of the first tramway in Europe (at Birkonhead, in 1860), and since then had been closely connected with tramway enterprises in England, Anwrica, and on the Continent. H.\ constructed the pioneer system of cable and electric tramways at Los Angeles, California, pioneered electric traction ir. London, designed and constructed the London United electric tramways system, constructed the first electric tramway at Bristol (18S5), constructed and reorganised the Dublin Southern District electric tramways, and the Middlesbrough, Stockton, ' and Thonaby electric tramways. In 1902, he was concerned in the promotion of the great tube railway system in London, and in 1906 designed and carried into successful operation a system of through booking between tramways and railways in London.]
