FURTHER PROPOSED AMENDMENTS. Several further amendments in the Gaming Amendment Bill have been given notice of, in addition to those already published, and it is evident that the measure will have a lively time in committee. For instance, Mr. Wright proposes that the grand total of investments in respect of any race shall be* published in legibls figures immediately after that race, and shall be prominently displayed alongside the totalisator, but shall b& soparate from and not in any way connected with the working mechanism of the tqtalisator. Mr. Pearce .proposes an amendment that every person who makes a bet with a bookmaker as t,o the result of any race or sport is guilty of an offence and liable, on conviction, to a fine not exceeding £10. Also the member for Patea proposes that every bookmaker shall be deemed to be an idle and disorderly person within the meaning of section 49 of the Police Offences Act. Mr. Clark has given notice to move that in determining the clubs to which totalisator licenses shall be granted, preference shall be given to those clubs which use the totalisator at only one meeting in any year.
