FORECAST.
At 9 A.m. the following forecast was issued for the subsequent 24 hours :— Winds.i — Westerly winds, strong to gale, are probable generally, and veering to southerly after ten- hours in the extreme south, and elsewhere before morning. Barome-.ter.— Fall slowly everywhere, but probably irising fast in about 16 hours. Sea.— lncreasing, and probably very heavy on all the western coast; increasing on the east coast southward of East Cape after 16 hours; rough off shore elsewhere. Tides.— High on the west coast of the North island, and in Cook and Fove;iux Straits; good elsewhere. Warning signals for -westerly gales are ex hibited at Cape Maria Van Diemen, East Cape, and Tiritiri, and for southerly at Capes Campbell, Farewell Spit, and Foulwind, Stephen Island, Nugget Point, and Centre Island. Weather.— Cloudy and unsettled weather is probable generally with rain in all parts of the country ; heavy on the West Coast, and snow on higher levels in the South I-land, ■with rivers flooded in many parts. A storm appears to be approaching from the southward after about 16 hours. D. C. BATES.
