EVANS BAY ROAD. TO THE EDITOR.
Sir, — With your permission I should like to call the attention of the city authorities- to the state of Evans Bayroad, which has been "in a wretched condition for some considerable time. As there are absolutely no footpaths, it has been a matter of some difficulty to reach one's home during the winter months. His Worship the Mayor, in one of his election speeches at Roseneath, admitted that this road was both narrow and dangerous, and in his opinion should be properly lighted. I have followed up the reports of City Council meetings in your columns for the past few months, but up to the present time nothing has been mentioned or done as regards lighting. I understand the Council has a scheme in hand to assist people to install electric light into private dwellings : surely they can find enough money to light a few chains of this dangerous road, say from the tram terminus to Balena Bay ? I should like to draw attention to the fact of refuse being deposited on the beach round Point Jerningham (which, by the way, is a common practice). A sackful of fish offal, besides one or two dead animale, have been lying 011 this beach for some iime, the stench from which is something abominable acd annoying to residents and passeTs-by. When such things are. allowed on a public road one feels inclined to wonder why an expensive destructor was 'built. Unless this sack is immediately removed it will, most likely, be shifting on its own account. — I am, etc., RATEPAYER. Roseneath, 3rd October, 1910.
