" COLLECTIVE WISDOM" IN ART TO THE EDITOR.

Sir, — Some time ago the Government of Barataria invited designs for its contemplated halls of Parliament. Three designs from architects of high repute were approved by the committee of selections, and as they were all admired for dignity, unity of design, and harmony of detail, all were accepted and paid for. One was in the Corinthian style, another Romanesque, and the third Pointed Gothic. .But so equally were they considered to be balanced in merit that the Cabinet could not agree which to prefer. It is now in contemplation to erect a> building which shall be a blend of the best features of the three in about equal proportions, the distribution of the details to be left to the builder as best may meet his taste and suit his convenience, and it is highly probable that this method will be adopted. Its impartiality must be highly gratifying to the competing artists, some of whom must otherwise have been disappointed. — I am, etc., COMPOSITE. Wellington, 30th September, 1910.
