CLAIM FOR DUES.
11l the Magistrate's Court yesterday afternoon, before Mr. \V. G. Hiddell, S.M., the Wellington Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiners' Industrial Union, of Workers sued Robert Lamason for £2 12s, one year's contributions to the funds of the society at Is a week, from 13th February, 1906, to 13th February, 1907. Mr. A. H. Hindmarsh. appeared for the plaintiff union. Mr. C. R. Dix for defendant. Lamason, it was stated, joined the union in 1905, paid dues for a short lime, then btecame in arrears, and, in accordance with the Conciliation and Arbitration Act, was automatically struck off the books. For the -defence it was contended that defendant joined the English Society of Carpenters and Joiners (which was: a parent body) and not the Wellington branch, and that he resigned s-hortly after, he joined, no demana for arrears being made till 1910. Decision was reserved.
