EASTBOURNE DRAMATIC SO-. CIETY'S SOCIAL.
The Day's Bay pavilion was, on Saturday evening, the scene of a pleasant gathering, the -first social given by the Eastbourne Dramatic Society. Th» hall was beautifully decorated with red and white muslin, lilies, and treeferns ; and, with the aid of the society's scenery and effects, the' stage was turned into a pretty and comfortable draw-ing-room. All the arrangements and decorations were carried out by the so-i ciety's committee, special praise being; due to the ladies — Misses Simpson (3), Phelps, and Fleming — and to the secretary, Mr. E. C. Bourne. The social, opened with a progressive euchre tournament, some 25 tables competing. The first prize was won by Mrs. VP. Shortt. The gentlemen's prizes were won by Messrs. Coira and P. Wright. A short musical programme — songs by Miss M. M'Keowen and Mr. E. B. Shortt, and a duet by Messrs. M^lsom and Coira> — was followed by supper. The social concluded with a programme, of eight dances, to the music of Miss Aileea Simpson, and all were agreed that this first social effort of the Eastbourne Dramatic Society was the most successful' function of its kind yet held across the harbour.
