Federal Ministers have approved of the arrangement to spend from thirtyfive to forty thousand pounds sterling of the Dreadnought fund on a Naval College at Sydney. It is estimated that the Dreadnought Committee- will have fifty thousand pounds left for the rural training of English youths. This will enable the committee to handle one- hundred and fifty youths annually. The first batch of boys will be dispatched this month. GOVERNOR-GENERAL AND MINISTERS. A DENIAL. (Received September 10, 11.5 a.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day. The Federal Prime- Minister, Mr. Fisher, . with the concurrence of Lord Dudley, the Governor-General, asserts emphatically that there is no foundation for the statement that there are strained relations between the Government and Lord Dudley, but that, on the contrary, their relations are most cordial. FEDERAL CAPITAL. TRANSPORTING TROOPS. LAND TAX BILL. MELBOURNE, 9th September. The Federal Senate, after considerable opposition, has adopted a- vote- of £45,000 for the Federal capital. The Minister for Defence (Senator Pearce), in reply to a question, stated that under the present broken gauge railway conditions it would take sixtythree days to transport 30,000 mounted troops with equipments from Brisbane to Melbourne. With a uniform gauge on the railways the time occupied would be only 23J days. Slow progress is being made in tiie debate on the Land Tax Bill, and further consideration of the measure has been postponed until Tuesday.
