• UNITED STATES POLITICS, MR, ROOSEVELT. IM SIGNIFICANT DECISION. By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright. LONDON, 9th September. The political situation in the United States grows increasingly interesting. Mr. Roosevelt has sprung another sensation on the country by refusing to sit at a banquet with Senator Lorimer, an Illinois Republican, who is alleged to have obtained his seat in the Senate by bribery. At Mr. Roosevelt's instance the managers of the banquet sent a telegram cancelling Mr. Lorimer's invitation. Mr. Roosevelt now admits the possibility of his return to public life, and has warned corrupt corporations and politicians not to support him. A significant decision is reported from St. Paulj where the Conservation Congress has adopted Mr. Roosevelt's conservation policy and "rejected Mr. Taft's. [In May last the charges against Senator Lorimer came prominently before the public. In the Senate he gave an impassioned denial to the statement that he had bought his Senatorship. This brought from Mr. Holt Law, an Illinois State Senator, the confession that Mr. Broderick, another State Senator, had paid him 2500 dollars for voting for Senator Lorimer.] VIOLENT SPEECHES. BOTH NAMES~ELIMINATED. (Received September 10, 9.10 a.m.) NEW YORK, 9th September. Violent speeches were delivered at the Conservation Congress. Some of the speakers alleged that the policies which had been submitted were as much Mr. Taft's as Mr. Roosevelt's. A motion to include Mr. Taft's name was negatived by ten votes to eight. An attempt was made later to remove what was considered to be an injustice to Mr. Taft, and after several ballots Mr. Roosevelt's name was also eliminated. « _„ _
