The board .vould not agree to a proposal to increase the daily charge to patients from 3a 6d to 6s. Returns made disclosed that there were a large number of defaulters of payment, no less than £2600 j being outstanding on the institution's ] books during the past five /ears. , The Borough of Palmerston has con- , tributed in voluntary subscriptions to , charitable objects connected with the ' hospital a sum of £3252 as against £688 , so contributed by the rest of the district comprising t.(ie brought, of Feiiding and Foxton, and the* five counties of Manawatu, Iviwitea, Kairanga, Oroua, and Pohangina.
