A private gramaphone recital was given this afternoon in the warehouse of Charles Begg and Co., Ltd., Willisstreet, and attended by a large number of ladies and gentlemen. A De Luxe machine, manufactured by the Grama-, phone and Typewriter Company, London, was used, and by its aid the listeners were entertained with songs, duets, and sextettes from records of the voices of Mesdames Melba, Tetrazzini, Jones-Hudson, Severina, Daddi, Sembrich, Signers Caruso and Scotti, Mons. E. Jolly and Journet, and Messrs R. Radford, P. Dawson, C. Whitehall, Harry Lauder, and Will Evans. Other records were of Sousa's Band and Coldstream Guards' Band, Trinity Church Choir, 1 and a prettily played piccolo duet. Afternoon tea was served to the guests of the company, who greatly enjoyed the recital. Amongst those present was Mr. F. W. M'Kenzie, the Father of Wellington, The Wellington Choral Society seems assured of a large house on Friday night, when the first concert of the season, takes place. The box plan at the Dresden is filling up rapidly. A very successful full rfhearsal was held on Monday evening, the orchestra acquitting itself admirably. Mr. Frank Graham will take part in the final rehearsal in the Town Hall on Thursday evening.
