PAHIATUA, This Day. The wrestlers Gordon Smith, of Pahiatua, and Joe Gardiner, the English light.weight champion, met in a catch-as-catch-can contest in the Olympic Theatre last night, to contest the best of three falls for £20. Smith beat Gardiner after one hour Beven. minutes of actual wrestling.' The first fall was obtained after forty-five minutes. Smith's weight was given as 12st 61b and Gardiner's as 9st 71b. Smith's greater weight and superior strength were too much for Gardiner, ;who showed great cleverness. Next Tuesday Bain and Smith meet again, and E. Lanauze undertakes to throw R. J. Smith, brother of Gordon Smith, three times in fifteen minutes.
