It has been announced that the steamer Earl of Carrick has been chartered by the Vacuum Oil Company to load case oil at New York for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. Built in 1905 by Russell and Co. at Port Glasgow, the Earl of Carrick is a steel screw steamer of 3938 tons gross and 2550 tons net. Her principal dimensions are :— Length 345 ft, breadth 49ft, and depth 17ft. UNION COMPANY'S STEAMERS. The Arahura left Nelson at 9.35 a.m. to-day for Picton and Wellington. The Rosamond, which left Wellington yesterday, continued her voyage to New Plymouth from Nelson at 11 a.m. The Poherua was unable to cross the Greymouth bar inwards this morning owing to the bar being in a dangerous condition, and the Te Anau and Kaituna were unable to cross outwards. TAINUI LEFT HOBART. The Shaw, Savill, and Albion steamer Tainui left Hobart for Wellington at 6 p.m. yesterday. She is expected to arrive here about 4 p.m. on Saturday. This orning the Patea Shipping Company's steamer Mana, which recently grounded at Patea, was placed on the Slip for overhaul. She should be ready for sea again about Friday. Overhaul of the Kaitoa was completed this morning, and the vessel will sail for Hokitika direct at 5 p.m. to-day. An enquiry into the circumstances connected with the wreck of the Lauderdale is being held at GreymoutU to-day. Shortly after 9 o'clock this morning the barque County of Inverness was taken out into the stream. The vessel will sail for Dunedin on the first favourable -wind. Mr. J. McMahon, chief officer of the Ngahere, lias been appointed to the comand of the dredge Paritutu. The vacancy on the Ngahere has been filled by the promotion of Mr W. J. Irvine from second to chief officer. The Union Company's big collier Wairuna, which arrived from Newcastle yesterday, brought over 5000 tons of coal, part of which will be discharged at Napier. Tho vessel had a very rough trip across the Tasman Sea. Early this morning the Shaw, Savill, and Albion steamer Arawa arrived in port from Lyttelton to complete Homeward loading. Sho will sail for London via Monte Video and Tenenffe, on Thursday, the 14th July. The Mineric, a new steamer of 4713 tons, will make a call at Wellington for bunker coal about Saturday next. The vessel left Newcastle last Monday for South America. After discharging and loading at Wellington the Orari proceeds to Picton and Waitara for Homeward loading.
