HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.
The House of Representatives met at 2.30 this afternoon. The Hon. G. Fowlds presented a petition from the Presbyterian General Assembly, praying for the abolition of the locker system, and that the manufacture and sale of intoxicating liquor in nolicense districts be made illegal. Several petitions were presented, praying for official recognition of the Enginedrivers', Firemen, and Cleaners' Society. Notice was given by Mr. Arnold to ask the Postmaster-General if he will arrange with the Cjommonwealth to have New Zealand postal notes made payable in Australia. Mr. T. E. Taylor gave notice to ask if the Government will lay on the table the correspondence which has taken place on the subject of the firm of "E. A. Smith" and the High Commissioner's office. The Hon. J. A. Millar gave notice to introduce the Factories Amendment Bill. The Prime Minister gave notice to introduce the Secret Commissions Bill. The Foreign Insurance Companies Deposits Amendment Bill (Sir Joseph Ward), the Contagious Diseases Act Repeal Bill (Sir Joseph Ward), and the Noxious Weeds Act Amendment Bill (Sir. Field), were read a first time. (Left sitting.)
