ACTS OF SACRILEGE.

NEW PLYMOUTH, 4th July. Yesterday morning some evilly disposed or mentally deficient person entered St. Mary's Anglican Church, evidently some time between 9 and 10 o'clock, threw the communion linen on the floor, and filled the chalice with wine from the flagons. The vicar and churchwardens are making strong efforts to discover the culprit in order to bring him to book. Enquiry shows that the Whiteley Memorial Church has been troubled in a similar manner on two or three Sundays lately. In one instance, when the outrage must have been committed between 4 o'clock and the evening service, the miscreant took the bread of the sacrament from the table and distributed it over the floor. Other minor sacrilegious acts have been committed, such as pulling cushions off seats, scattering anthems, and so on.
