In the Supreme Court, Mr. Justice Edwards sentenced Bernard Hum, aged 17, to twelve months' imprisonment lor wounding a cow at Helens ville ; Harold W. Smith, for theft of money from his employer, to two years' hard labour. George Fredk. Huhne, aged 16, for breaking and entering at Hamilton, was admitted to probation, hi* lapee being attributed to reading sensational literature, w A halfcast« Maori lad named William Arthur, for breaking, entering, tbtft, and forgery and uttering at Gisborne was sentenced to two years' imprisonment on each charge, the sentences to be concurrent. A Maori named Ratenc, aged 22, pleaded guilty to indecent assault at Whakatane. He asked for probation, as it was his first offence. Too judge remarked there was morality of the sexes amongst the Maoris, who must not be judged on the same level as a highly civilised community. Accused was admitted to probation for twelve months. Frank Tozer wax sentenced to six months' imprisonment for forgery. Charles Edward Stuart, aged 30, was centenced to ten years' imprisonment for an unnatural offence. John Thompson was admitted to probation for two years for breaking and entering with intent to commit a crime at Ongarue. He entered tho railway station while muddled with drink in the hope of getting more.
