A company has been formed for the purpose of erecting a skating rink in Christchurch, and work will be at once commenced. The site, states the Press, is in Hereford -street, running from the back of the Shades Hotel. The building inside will be 700 ft long by 72ft wide. There will be a gallery at tho northern end to hold 400, and a seating platform at the southern, holding some 300, whilst seats wilj be placed round the sides. The floor is to be coated with a patent composition, which will give great smoothness. The building is to be lighted by skylights, arid will supply the great want felt for a proper building in which to hold flower shows. It is expected that the rink will be completed in about six weeks from commencing operations. The Scottish Lowland Society, which, since the departure of the late secretary, Mr. James Thompson, for Sydney, has discontinued its meetings, will meet again on Thursday evening. Several lady members of the society are making active efforts to secure a good attendance of members and prospective members.
