« Sir Joseph Ward arrived m Wellington from the south this morning. Mr. J. F. 11. Fraser, K.C., of Dunadin, arrived "from the south this morning. The Hon. A. Baldey, M.L.C., was a passenger to Sydney by the Moesaki last evening. Mr. H. D. Bedford, ex-M.P., ham been appointed lecturer in history at the Otago University. Mr. K. "U . Martin, has been admitted a partner in the firm of Messrs Martin and Atkinson, barristers and solicitors. Mr. K. 11. Muir, engineer of th» State coal mins at Westport, has been appointed engineer to the Thames City Council, vice Mr. J. M. The council of the Northern Bowling Association last night passed a vote of condolence vath Captain Trask, a delftgate to the council, on ths death of his father, the late Hon. F. Trask, M.L.C. The Wellington Centre of the NewZealand Amateur Athletic Association decided at its meeting last night to !*send a letter to Dr. A. Mr. Samuel Radford, a well-known mine manager in the Auckland district, burst a blood vessel a month ago, and I died at the Thames last week. His lat© brother, Mr. Thomas Radford, was Mayor of the Thames for several terms. The death is recorded in the London press of Mr. Mark Andrew Chivers, a well known and highly-respected London journalist. Mr. Chivers, vho occupied a high and responsible position on the literary staff of The Times, died within a fortnight of his eighty-eighth year. He was engaged at Tho Times office for nearly sixty years, and for many years I was editor of the weekly edition. Bishop Julius has appointed the Rev. G. H. Morse (who is at present vicar of Te Kuiti, in the diocese of Auckland) to the cure of the parochial district of Methven, lately rendered vacant 'by the appointment of the Rev. T. H. York to tho parish of Riccarton. The new vicar will take up his residence at Methven in about three months' time. In the meantime the Rev. F. G. Brittain is acting as locum, tenens. A Press Association message states that the Rev. J. Ward, who has been in charge of 'the Methodist Church at Port Chalmers, and has been transferred to Wellington, was entertained last night and presented with an easy chair and a cheque, subsc/ibed by iiiends throughout New Zealand, in recognition of his services as editor of the Methodist Outlook, and his efforts in securing a separate conference for the dominion.
