At a meeting of directors of the Bank ' of New* Zealand, held this morning, Mr. | Harold Bcauckamp was elected Chairman of the Board for the ensuing financial year. Tiic Hon. O. Samuels. M.L.C., of New Plymouth, is on a visit to Wellington. Sir Geo. M'Lean and Mr. J. Craigie, M.P. for Timaru, are oa a visit to Wellington. Major Mac Knight, of the Commonwealth Army Medical Corps v at present in Wellington. Mr. R. Black, of Wellington, has be«n licensed as a surveyor under the Surveyors' Institute and Board of Examiners Act. Mr. D. M'Laren, M.P., whp has beea on a Labour organising tour iv the South Island, is due back in Wellington ou Tuesday acxt. Mr. Ja?. Stewart, C.E., of Auckland, who has been ou a professional visit to Dunedin, arrived in Wellington to-day on his way North. Mr. W. Jaques, formerly canning expert for the New Zealand Government, and now in business for himself at Motueka. left Wellington ior Auckland last evening. The Rev. W. H. Wilson (Church or England), the Revs. E. A. Bridger and W. Tanner (Congregational Independents), and Mr. W. M'Lean (Wellington Association of Spiritualists), are gazetted officiating ministers under the Marriage Act. In a letter to Mr. C. W. Palmer, Secretary of the Navy League, Commander W. F. Blunt, of H.M.S. Pioneer, states that he will be vUiting Wellington at tho cud of May. The Rev. J. Hornby-Spear, of Double Bay, Sydney, who has been on an extended holiday in Nelson, where he was stationed about 30 years ago, will be a passenger for Sydney by the Moeraki tonight. A Nelson Press Association telegram records the death of Mr. F. N. Jones, senior, an old resident, who was well known in Marlborough and West Coast sporting circles. He died suddenly of heart disease this morning. This is the third sudden death of well-known old local te&idents in the week. Tho Very liev- Dr. Kennedy. Rector of St. Patrick's College, has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society, in recognition of his work at the Meanee Observatory. Dr. Kennedy is also a Fellow of the British Aatronoinical Association, and * Fellow of the Royal Meteorological Society. An English scientist, writing to a friend in Christchurch, states that Cantaiil Scott hna arranged to take on his Antarctic expedition as physicist Dr. Simpson, at present in the Indian meteorological service, contingent on the Indian Government granting Dr. Simpson the necessary leave. Dr. Simpson is an old student of Dr. Schuster, second Shygicist, at present working at Cavenish laboratory, who has also been en- I gaged to go with the expedition. Mr. Henry Charles Haselden, son of Mr. C. J. A. Haselden, ex-Under-Secre-tary for Justice, and nephew of Mr. W. R. * Haselden, S.M., died at Auckland last Saturday. The deceased, who was a native of New Zealand, was 48 years of age. He was educated at Wellington College, and for some time was m btmne** here as a bookseller and stationer. During his residence in Auckland he contracted a severe cold, and his lungs becoming seriously afftcted, death occurred on Saturday.
