MR. CRAWFORD AT KILBIRNIE.

Mr. C. J. Craw fold continued hi? campaign for the Mayoralty by addressing the elector* at O'Donnell's Hall, Kilbirnie, lnst e\ening. There wa* a good attendance, tho hall heinz well filled. Mr. Crawford rcfoncd to the progress of Kilbirnie during retcnt years, and Faid although ho did not wi^h to claim 100 much credit for himself, he thought no one had done more for Kilbirnie thnn he had, and in passing olluded to tho tram >ervicc nnd reclamation wjhenie at Evans Bay. It was his opinion that the Harbour "Board had got power to reclaim too large an area in Evans Bay. He thought tho people of Kilbirnie and the surrounding district should protest against the scheme which the board had taken power' to carry out. There were several spot* in Evans Bay between Kilbirnie and the Patent Slip which wero eminently suitable for mooring yacht* and small boats, and such places were i - are. On liie j-out-h i«ide of the bay there were areas which should be reserved for playgrounds for children. He would not oppose nny reclamation that was absolutely necessary, but wholesale reclamation, as was proposed, was not desirable for the community at large. Dealing with the subject of recreation grounds, Mr. Crawford t-tated that the area in i front of the hall was given by his father ' to the residents. He regretted that the council hr.d not kept the ground in better order. If elected, he would do everything in his power to sec that the ground was improved. North Kilbirnie \ nnd Hnlailn had, in his opinion, a real grievance in connection with the tunnel, which ought to have been lower down, and to have contained a foot passage. He considered there was nothing to prevent the constiuction of a road for light traffic from v point near Majori-bankst-street over to Kilbirnie. He had for a considerable period advocated the con«:tTnptioii of a traimvny from Con-<.lab!e-*tre«t to Kilbirnie. On the motion of Mr. Burke, seconded by Mr. Easson, ? hearty \ote of thanks and confidence in Mi. Craw- j ford was Carried. TO-NIGHT'S MEETINGS. Mr. Wilford will *peak at Wadestow.a this evening. To-night Mi. Crawford will address the cledoiß at Brooklyn.
