The annual meeting of the Wesleyan Literary and Debating Society was held in the class-room, Taranaki-stroet, li*t evening. Mr. W. E. Fuller, vice-presi-dent, wai hi the chair. An excellent syllabud was compiled, and the I ooci«ty opens its new session on the 21st, with a public musical and elocutionary entertainment. There was a large attendance at the inaugural "social" promoted by the Catholic residents of Northland, and held on Wednesday night in the schoolroom recently erected, in that district. About 68 couples were present, and an enjoyable evening waa spent. Dancing wa* interspersed with songs by Mrs. Contello, Miss, P. Monaghan, Mewm. Dave Kenny, C. Hickmott, and It. Sievers, whilst Mi«* Guilford danced an Irish jig. Special thanks are due to members of the Ladies' Committee for their efforts in making the gathering a success. Messrs. Shapeott, Walsh, and Siever acted as M.C.'s. Thr«re wiu a successful concert at Torystreet Mission Hall last night, before a good attendance. Sister Isabel occupied the chair. Tho programme was arranged by Miss Stokes, who also acted as accompanist, and played a pianoforte solo. Songs wer» contributed by Misses C. Stores and Howard and Mrs. Bell, Messrs. Smith and Caseey recited, Mr. Walker played violin solos, and Mr. Blackburn played a mouth-organ selection. After a light supper the usual votes of thanks wor« accorded the entertainer*.
