SINGLE-TAX LEAGUE.

A recent acquisition to the ranks of the Single-taxers is IHr. Joseph Fels, a wealthy British manufacturer, who is stated to be willing to devote a substantial portion of his wealth towards the work of propaganda. Recently he communicated with the New Zealand Single Tax .League, enclosing a draft for £50, and offering to provide £ for £ on any sum raised in this country for the next five years. At a preliminary meeting held in Auckland a few weeks ago two gentlemen pledged themselves to contribute •ach the sum of £100, and others present accounted for an additional £60. It \ as in connection with the Fels Fund tha^ a number of citizens assembled in Godber's Rooms last night, Mr. _\ J. O'Regan presiding. Among those present was Mr. K. A. Hould, of Auckland, an old worker in the movement, and editor of the Liberator, its official | organ in this country. Mr. Hould dur- { ing the course of an address, outlined the proposed method of propaganda in connection with which the generous offer was to be uili.«ed. The services of * gentleman well known as an advocate of free trade and land-value taxation j had been practically secured, and already enough money was in sight to •mure a year's work. The chairman stated that public opinion was rapidly developing in favour of taxing land values. The fight now proceeding In England was the work, not merely of Mr. Lloyd-George, but of the army of enthusiastic workers who for many years bad maintained an incessant agitation #yen in iho face of discouraging circumstances. "The democracy of Great Britain had grabbed landlordism by the throat, and would not let go until it was destroyed. It was up to the faithful in this country, where, in spite of a, comfortable belief to the contrary, landlordism was rampant, to do their part." After further discussion, a committee was appointed to interview personally all the Wellington sympathisers who were not present, the committee to report in a fortnight to another meetfog.
