ESPERANTO.

ADDRESS BY COLONEL POLLEN. Colonel Pollen, president of the British Esperanto Association, delivered an interesting address at the MUnions to Seam<en last night on the akns of the association which ho represents. After explaining that the new language was the invention of a Russian Pole, Colonel Pollen said that Espenuito was no longer a dream, but a reality. It was a poor man's language, and could be- learned in threo months. The attitude of the British was, "English in good enough for me; if the foreigner wants to talk to me let him learn English." But it would take hundreds of years before English was understood as an international language. Esperanto had had five different concretes and people representing forty dift»rent nationalities had diHUMcI every possible »»bj«ct in thi* eitnple language, which was easy of adoption throughout tho length and breadth of tho world. It placed men in touch with men of all count ties. There wer» many old stick-in-the-mud Conservatives, schoolmasters, for iostunce, in England, who rendered it impossible for the English boy to speak any other but his own language ; and that not remarkably well. He asked them, however, to look into this matter; he claimed for it « fair field and no favour. The association hoped to soon see the language adopted throughout the schools of th« British Empire. Personally, ho had no doubt it would triumph. Colonel Pollen, after giving some examples of the adaptability of Esperanto, interpreted •> recitaUon. He tv»* accorded & h«*cty vot« of ttaakft for his addr*».
