CHRISTCHURCH, 6th April. At a meeting of the New Zealand Trotting Association to-day the committee teb up to consider a scheme for submission to the conference for the encouragement of a modified form of "free for all" racing proposed that any club during the year must give for "free for all" (open to all) horses, as follows: — Tf holding four days' racing, at least one race of £100 ; six days' racing, at least two of £100 each ; three or more meetings, at least equal to one of £100 each for each meeting. Tho limits to be — one mile, 4?ec ; one mile and a quarter, ssec ; one mile and a half, 6 sec ; two miles, Bsec. Distances to be .left to each rlub's discretion. The report was approved, and directed to be included in suggestions to be brought before tke conference in July. SOUTHLAND RACES. INVERCARGILL, 6th April. Th« weather was cold, with light showers, and there was a heavy gale for the opening day of the Southland autumn meeting. The course was heavy. The amount put through the totalisator was £4605, as against- £3362 last season. Twelve bookmakers, nine inside and three outside, obtained permit?, the fees totalling £177.
