[BX TEbKOBAPH — SPECIAL TO THE *OBT.] PALMERSTON N., This Day. A weaknew in the Licensing Act was disclosed by a cane in the Magi&trate'a Court, in which G. Brown, of Shannon, was charged with nupplyinp liquor to Maoris for consumption in tne prohibited district of P&ukawa. The constable's evidence showed that defendant brought a Fack out of the hotel and hid it in the raupa swamp. Later some Maoris came on the scene and removed the sack in a dray. The constable found a demijohn of liquor in their possession. Defendant told the constable the Maoris were, carrying tho liquor homo for him. For the defence, M_r. Cooper cit«d the case Fit zpat rick v. Oibbs, recently decided by Mr. Justice. Chapman. After considering the decision, Mr. Thomson, S.M., said the effect of the ruling vat that it was not unlawful to supply liquor to Maori men, provided it was not done, on premises, in othei words that it was only unlawful to supply the liquor on premises, licensed or unlicensed, to be consumed off those premises. The charge would therefore bo dismissed.
