ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH DESTROYED

[BY TELEGBAPH — PHESS ASSOCIATION.] TMARU, This Day. The Timaru Roman Catholic Church was burned down early this morning. Tho fire -was first seen about 2.30, and it then had a good hold of the western portion of the church. As the building was about forty yars old and built of wood the fire spread with remarkable speed, and within five minutes of the alarm it was seen that the church was doomed. The brigade got two leads to work, but the powerful jets had not the slightest •effect on the flames. The- fire at its height was a magnificent spectacle, and for fully an hour the town was brilliantly lit. The whole building and its valuable contents in the way of church furniture were completely destroyed.
