MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

Two charges were brought in the Magistrate's Court to-day against Thomas Louis Gardiner, who appeared before Mr. W. U. Haselden, S.M., charged that being a prohibited person, he procured liquor frum some person or persons unknown ; and, also, that he was found drunk in Buckle-street yesterday. Fines of £2 and 5s were inflicted respectively, the alternative being fifteen days' imprisonment. William Egan, five times previously convicted for insobriety, promised to "turr over a new leaf ' when further charged with intemperance. The Bench was lenient, and the inebriate was convicted and discharged. John M'Kinnon also charged with having been intoxicated, had been previously convicted. He was fined 20s, in default seven days' imprisonment. Arthur Rowe, alias Thomas Kennedy, alias H. O'Keefe, appeared on two charges, namely obtaining gig hire of and from George M'Kenzie, at Waitara, on the 9th October, 1909, to the value of 25s by means of a false pretence, with intent to defraud ; and obtaining of and from Charles Ryan, at Wauganui, on tho 13th October a ring, valued at £2 10s, by means of & faias pretence, with int&tit to defraud. On the application of Chief - Detective Broberg accused was remanded to appear at Wauganui on the 13th itist. Stone-throwing, to the danger of property, was responsible for the appearance of a Brooklyn lad before the Stipendiary Magistrate to-day. The juvenile accused, who was 12 years of age, was instrumental in breaking a window. He was convicted and discharged with a caution. At the Mount Cook Police Court this morning, before Mr. T. Bland, J.P., John Patrick Coylc was fined 20», with the option of seven days' imprisonment, fpr being drunk and disorderly ; James Dunn Leckie w;u> fined 10s or 48 hours' imprisonment for a similar offence, and one first -offender was fined ss. CIVIL BUSINESS. Judgment was entered for plaintiff by Mr. W. R". Haselden, S.M., to-day in the following undefended cases : — George Rogers v. Alexander D. Campbell, £2 18s 6d, costs 10s; Wellington City Council v. Thomas John Hodder, £11 18s 4d, costs 15s; R. Jeruaalem and Son v. Thomas Bright, £5 19s 6d, costs £1 3s 6d ; Smallbone, Grace and Co., Ltd. v. Wey Kee, £2 4s, costs 12s ; Wilhelm Farquhar Eggers v. Patrick O'Connell, £10 13s Bd, costs £1 10s 6d; G. Hardt and Co. v. Archibald M'Pherson, £16 12s B<i, costs £1 10s 6d ; Louis Morris v. 11. N. Cannall, £2 3s 2d, costs ss; Onslow Borough Council v. Harold H. H. Ahcarn, I^-s fOd, costs 7s; Wellington Building Union v. George Jacobs, 14-* Bd, costs 5-. In the judgment summons case Karori Borough Council v. Edmund Platt, defendant, who did not appear, was ordered to pay £106 33 2d on or before tho 3rd May/or in default undergo one month's imprisonment. An order was refused in the case of Albert Major v. Mrs. L. H. Toomer, a debt of £7 9s 6d.
