PETONE AMBULANCE CARNIVAL

» The carnival held on the Recreation Ground, Petone, ou Saturday afternoon, under the auspices of the Ambulance Wagon Committee, wns highly successful from a spectacular point of view. The programme, the arrangement of which loflccted great credit on the secretary, Mr. \\'. U. D. Evans, and hi* energetic committee, comprised chiefly competitive games, which started off with a bout ut Association football between teams from the St. Auguittine'a and St. David's Clubs. After a fairly evenly-contested J»m*, the former succeeded in establishing a lead of one point, the result of a neatly-placed goal .by C. Andrews. Mr. F. Waddell refereed. Then followed an exhibition of physical drill by a squad of twenty cadets, who, under Cadet-Sergeant Wynyard, and instructed by Mr. J. Lyntkey, gave a very capable diMnhy. A ladies' fancy dress hockey match between teams from IVtone and Hinemoa Clubs next attracted considerable attention. Although impeded to *ome extent by their ruftnmen, both teams played biiokly.
