Hope End Mansion, occupying the site of Mrs. Browning's home, near Ledbury, Herefordshire, was destroyed by fire. A hoube party iost all their jewels. They escaped in their night attire. The damage is set down at £50,000. [Mrs. Elizabeth Barrett Browning, the noted English poetess, and wife of Robert Browning, the poet, was born in 1806, nnd died in 1861.]
