The case of a consumptive immigrant occupied the attention of the Hospital Board yesterday. The man had worked his passage out on an immigrant boat, was allowed to land, and immediately became an inmate of the Wellington Hospital. Later be found his way to this district, and within two months of landing in the Dominion he became a charge on the State, being admitted to the Palmerston Consumptive Annexe, from where he was sent to Cambiidgfe Sanatorium. He was discharged for insubordination, and now ho is an inmate of another hospital in the Auckland district, and a claim has been made on the Palmerston Board for his maintenance, it being the rule that a district is liable for patients fur &ix months after their removal therefrom. Dr. Valintine wrote expressing the opinion that the Palmerston Board was responsible, but the board will probably contest the claim. The executive was authorised to deal with it in the meantime.
