THE GAME SEASON.

HOW WELLINGTON DISTRICT IS AFFECTED. The question of whether there should or should not be a, close season for game this year has been recently exercising the minds of members of acclimatisation societies and sportsmen throughout the Dominion. Under the Animals Protection Act the year 1910 should be a close season, -but numerous requests received from acclimatisation societies have induced the Government to exercise the power which they possess to allow an open month for certain classes of game in particular districts. . On«enquiry from the Hon. D. Buddo, Minister of Internal Affairs, to-day, it was ascertained that the position in regard to the Wellington acclimatisa-tion district will be this : that there will be an open season for hares and quail for ono month after the 14th of May next. All other game — native and imported — will be protected in this district during, this year ; so that the request of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society hasbeen granted except hi respect to the duration of the -open period, which will be one month irifftead of three months.
