MONEY UNCLAIMED.

♦ I LOCAL BODIES AND LAND REVENUE. Local bodies are often h^ard bewailing their empty or at least slender purses, and yet some of them in the Wellington district do not seem to be anxious to take money when it is offered to them. They are entitled to proportions of the lent* or sales of Crown lands, such moneys to be expended upon roads, and to-day there is now an accumulation of £11.625 2s Id to their credit in the hands of the District Crown Lands office. Payments to the amount of £5279 10s lid were mode of such moneys last year, but the £11,625 is still unclaimed. Levin seems to be able to dispose of all it can get, for there is only £7 9s Id standing to its credit ; while Rangitikei, which had £1093 Is 2d liisl year, will, no doubt, ha able to dispose of the £1632 17s lid which to-day stands to its credit. Mangawhero lias j £1625 17-5 Sd, and yet only applied for ] £69 9s last year. Waimarino, with j £4330 to the good, required only a ten pound iioto last year. Amounts to credit of some other bodies arc :—: — Fpather.-ton, £304, Eketahuna £452, and Akitio £424. There has been as much as £^0.000 in the hands of the board, all money due to local bodies for road*, if they could only maxe up their minds to get to work and ppend it. However, the board ha? given three montho' notice to all entitled to it that such money unclaimed at the end of that time will be paid into the Public Works Fund, unless the local bodies put in for approval of the board acceptable proposals as to its expenditure.
