HIBERNIAN CONFERENCE.

ROUTINE MATTERS. The conference of delegates froia branches of the Hibernian Catholic Benefit Society was continued in Wellington] after The Post went to press yesterday. A long discussion took place ' wheii Napier was proposed as the place whera the next triennial meeting should be held. Amongst the resolutions adopted were the following : — "That three nominations for th© office of deputy be made by the parent branch in each district where a deputy is required, and submitted to all the branches in such districts; the branches then to call a special meeting and take a vote on such deputy; the candidate who receives the highest, number of votes to be recommended to the District Executive for approval." "That the district officers shall insist on the Teturns from branches being carried out according to the rule and that no further leniency bo extended to them other than that provided for in the rules." "That no proxy delegate shall be allowed to act at the triennial meeting except where he is directly appointed by; the branch which he represents." A good deal of discussion took place on a motion tabled by Bro. M'Keowen affirming that there should be a Catholio organ which would enunciate the principles, the opinions, and the deliberations of all Catholic societies — the St. Vincent de Paul Society, the Catholic Clubs, and the Hibernian Society. Bro. Casey (Greymouth) moved an amendment that the question should be referred to the District Executive with a request to report to branches in order that the matter . might be dealt with, at the next half yearly meeting. The motion was withdrawn, and Bro. Casey's propositioa was carried. The proceedings concluded with tho election of office-bearers, which resulted as follows : — District president, Bro. C. Mulholland (Auckland! ; D.V.P., Bro, H. Nerheny (Auckland); D.S., Bro. W. Kane; D.T., Bro. M. J. Sbeahan ; District Auditors, Bros. J. Smith and James Stead. The retiring officers were accorded votes of thanks for their services. It was decided to reward the minute secretary, Bro. M'CnskeT, with a bonus for hi* services during the conference. The two lady members, Sisters Robinson and Walsh, briefly addressed ths conference, thanking the members of thej Wellington branch for the courtesy which had been extended to them. The delegates are being entertained to* day.
