BOXING.

— ♦ BURNS AND LANGFORD. By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright. SYDNEY, olet March. Burns has accepted a challenge to fight Langford at Richmond, near Oaklands, California, on 25th September, for 25,000 dollars (£5000). A WELL-MATCHED PAIR. With both men in foim the BurnsLangford match, if it eventuates, should prove a very fine battle. Both are light "heavies," and both are eager fighters. The black gentleman is credited with a very long reach, a head like iron, and a ehffty pair of hands and feet. For the hist two or three years Langford has been consistently side-stepped by all the "cracks," including Johnson, Ketcuel, Papke, and Co. The world's heavy weight champion contracted to fight Langford in London last Derby night, for the championship, but in his usual casual way, did not appear. Some of the authorities at Home declared that Johnson, by his action, had forfeited his right to the honours. Langford has found it exceedingly difficult to get a match of any kind, such is the reputation he has established. A few weeks ago he fought fireman Jim Flynn, one of America's "tryouts," for the heavy-weight aspirants. The Sydney Referee's representative (Mr. W. W. Naughton) states that the contest, in which Flynn was victor, had a very suspicious look, especially in view of tho fact that in a previous battle between the num Langford had Flynn absolutely at his mercy from the first gong. Meantime Langford is anxious to draw Stanley Ketchel, the Michigan "fire-eater," and he probably "lay down" to rope Kctchcl in. Burns and Langford, or Burns and Ketchel, would prove an almost idea' match. Meanwhile Burns lias Lang yet to beat. The latter has at least an outside chance, and more.
