PERSONAL MATTERS.

Mr. T. M. Wilford, M.P., :eturned yesterday from a- visit to Christchurch. Lieutenant-Colonel Chaytor has been appointed Director o! Military Education. Mr. H. F. Toogood, who has been appointed resident engineer to the Hokitika Harbour Board, is on board the s.s. Morea, which arrived at Fremantle on Tuesday last, he having joined that vessel at Colombo. The Hon. Dr. Findlay has accepted an invitation from the ManawatNi Philosophical Society to lecture under its auspices at Palmerston North on the 21st April. The subject will be "Legal Liberty." It is probable that Dr. Findlay will speak at Whangarei before Parliament opens. The Prime Minister is at present in Otago, Hon. G. Fowlds at Gisborne, Hon. J. A. Millar en route for Australia, Hon. D. Buddo at Kaiapoi, Hon. R. M'Kenzie at Dargaville. Hon. T. Mackenzie at Dunedm, while Hons. Dr. Findlay, J. Carroll, and A. Ngata are jn Wellington. A Mr. G. T. Prescott, the New Zealand manager for the T. and G. Mutual Life Society, who has been transferred to Australia, was entertained ,by tho staff on Wednesday. General regret was expressed at his departure, and the newlyappointed manager, Mr. C. A. Marquis, on behalf of the New Zealand staff, presented Mr. Prescott with a handsome tea and coffee service, and silver-mounted toilet bottle for Mrs. Prescott. A very pleasant evening was spent, musical items being contributed by Messrs. Pres.ott, Sedford, Stephens, Roberts, Ballantyne, and Robbins. The proceedings closed with cheers for Mrs. and Mrs. Prescott.
