ALLEGED ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.
[BY TELEGHAPH — PRESS ASSOCIATION.] HASTINGS, This Day. Andrew Thow, aged 70, is alleged to have attempted to commit suicide last night by cutting his throat. He had been suffering from rheumatism, and was despondent. He was removed in a precarious condition to Napier Hospital.
The weekly meeting of the Star of Newtown Lodge, No. 24, was held in St. Thomas's Schoolroom last evening. Bro. Wicks, C.T., presided. There waa ft fair attendance of members and viaitors. Bro. D. C. Cameron, G.C.T., from Dunedin, was present, and was officially received and accorded an enthusiastic welcome. The G.C.T. then occupied the chair for the remainder of the evening. The item on the programme was "Best conundrum on city | lodges," and was won by Bro. H. Milan. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the visitors.
