SOME INTERESTING COMPARISONS. There were 40 more births in Wellington city and suburbs during tho first quarter of this year than in the corresponding period of last year. As compared with the first quarter of 1909 thoro wu a deercaso in tho number of marriages of 13, notwithstanding that Easter this year foil within tho quarter, whereas the Easter season lnit year was in April. No fower than 71 couples wcro married during tho recent Easter, and theso figures, of course, appear in this quarter s returns. Thero wero 220 deaths during tho past quarter, which h 19 les* than during tho first quarter of 1909, but it has to bo remembered that included in tho returns for last Tear wero tho figures relating to the wreck of the Penguin.
