NORTH OF SYDNEY HEADS. Sydney flies to hand contain further particulars of the collision which took place on Wednesday morning last between the Union Company's steamer Munapouri and the tug Gratitude, ofl Terrigal, 80 miles north of Sydney. The Manapouri was bound for Sydney from Newcastle, whilst the tug, with a punt in tow, was on her way to Newcastle from Sydney. The Manapouri struck the tup on the port quarter, and the blow was so setere that, to use the captain's own words, "it nearly cut the counter off her." The effect of it was to clue the boat romd, and the tow line connecting her with tbe punt was aleo rut, while the pant itself came round and struck the Manapouri on tltc side. Desperate efforts were made to teep the tug afloat, for though badly damaged, R'.ie did not sink immediately; .an attempt was, indeed, made to reach the shore so that she might be beached, but it could not be managed. When it became manifest that she was sinking the crew took to the boat and all were saved, being picked up Ity the Manapoavi and brought to Sydney. 7 lie Manapouri did not wholly escape damage as one of her plates was injured. A patch, however, was placed orer tbe damaged part, and she was to proceed on her voyage to tbe Islands on Friday or Saturday last.
