CONTROL OF RACING.
The Race Meetings Act passed last session comes into operation tomorrow. The meusHre does not apply to racing clubs authorised to use v totalisator. Other clubs must apply to tlie Minister of Internal Affairs for* a license to hold a iu<e meeting, aud such license may be revoked at any time (lie Minister thinks fit. HacitiK conducted without such authority is illegal, and any ono tonceiiied in such n race meeting is liable to a fine of £50, or to three mouths' impiisonmeut. If the offence is committed by a body corporate the fine will be £200. It may be added tlmt trotting conies under tho definition of "horse racing."
