NOUMEA VISITED ON SUNDAY. GREAT DAMAGE. ROADS WASHED AWAY. 8/ Telegraph. — Prm A isoeiatlon.— Copyright (Received March 30, 10 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. A hurricane raged at Noumea on Sunday last, causing great damage. Houses were unroofed, telegraph lines blown down, and roads washed away by the high rea*. The German gunboat Cormorant lost several boats in the gale. THE GALE AT FIJI. DAMAGE NOT SO GREAT A3 STATED. (Received March SO, 10.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. Private cnbles from Fiji show that fears regarding the extent of the damage by the hurricane are unfounded. The damage is chiefly confined to Suva and the vicinity of Levnka. Ba, Lautoka, and Tuviunl escaped damage, hut it will be a. few days before the effect of the storm on any of the outlying islands is known.
