THE INTER-COLLEGE TOURNEY. RESULTS OF FINALS. [BY TELEOBAPH — I'R.ESS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH, 29th Match. The concluding rounds of the intercollegiate tennis tournament were played to-day. The men's tungles, men's doubles*, and ladies' doubles went to Canterbury College, and the ladies' singles and combined doubles 'to Victoria College, representatives of the other two college** failing to secure a championship. The real final of the men's singles was played in the second round, when T. D. Smith (C.C.) met and defeated A. S. Moody (0.U.), 6—4, 4—6, 6—5,6 — 5, after a close game. The result was to leave two Canterbury College men, L. S. Jennings and Smith, to play off in the final. jJenningg, who was undoubtedly the best player in the tournament, easily disposed of his opponent, 6—3,6 — 3, 6—3. In the final of the doubles Jennings and Smith (C.C.) met A. S. 1 Moody and G. Gower (O.U), and won the first two sets with little difficulty, the ficores being 6—3, 6—2. The ladies' championship singles produced an intereating contest between Miss B. I. L. ' Reeve (V.C.) and Miss B. W. Grace (C.C). Both played 6teadily, if somewhat monotonously, but Miss Grace could not get a proper length, and her • short shots gave many advantages to ' her opponent!. Miss Reeve, on the i other ftand, kept an excellent length, [ and her returns were very sure. Miss Ree,vo won, 9—5. Some good play was also witnessed in the final of the ladies' i doubles between Misses B. I. L. Reeve i and J. Tennant (V.C.) and Misses B. W. Grace and L. Paterson (C.C), the latter winning, B—4. The Canterbury i ladies worked well together, and their , driving was harder and better placed i than that of their opponents. The most I disappointing event of the day was the ; final of the combined doubles, played . between Mies B. I. L. Reeve and O. M. Cleghom (V.C) and Miss L. l\ .son nnd F. N. H. Beamish (C,C.) In , the first event, which was won by Vie- , toria College, 6—2, the play of the two . men was faulty in the extreme, but , in <tho second set they got more into , form again. The ladies, on the other Hand, plnyed steadily nnd accurately from the beginning. The set went to Victoria College, 9—7.
