LADIES' HOCKEY.

THE WELLINGTON ASSOCIATION. ANNUAL REPORT. An advance copy of the fifth annual report of the Wellington Hockey Association is available. In presenting the statement tha' committee congratulates members on the success of last season. Mention is made that there were five senior, thirteen junior, and seven thirdciass teams in championship matches last year ; as compared with five senior, twelve junior, and thirteen third-class teams in 1908. The championships were won by Victoria College, Gregg A, and Roseueath respectively, the runners up being Hinemoa, St. John's A and Victoria College A (tie), and Celtic B. The championship tournament, held at Napier in August, at which Wellington was represented, was won by Hawkes Bay, which retains the Senior Cup. Tbe junior contest was not held, there not being enough entries. No other representative matches were played during the season, projected matches with Christchurch and Horowhenua Association falling through owing to the lateness of the season, which ■was protracted on account of much wet weather. Use of the men's grounds at Day's Bay proved a great advantage in every way, aad the committee trusted that the association will again be granted the use of them. The council grounds were not so satisfactory. The financial position of the association is considered sound, the credit balance being £4 19s Bd. It is stated that clubs must in the coming season face tne problem of increasing the income. Thanks were due to Dr. Holmes and Messrs. Organ, Pearson, and Tripe for donations, and to Mrs. de la Mare, who chaperoned tho team to Napier, and to the various gentlemen who assisted as referee* during the season. ' The committee recorded with regret tbe death of Mrs. T. W. Hislop, who was unanimously elected president at the lant annual meeting. Notice of motion has been give- ,l>y Mr. M'lntyre "that the capitation lee be increased to Is 6d per member.
