LAWN TENNIS.

PROVINCIAL TOURNAMENT. The annual tournament of the Wellington Provincial Tennis Association was continued this afternoon on the grounds of the Thorndon Club. The weather was calm and. warm, eminently favourable to good tenni«. There was a fair attendance of spectators. The first matches played were the semifinal of the Senior Combined Doubles and the final of the Men's Junior Doubles. The games were interesting in each instance. Miss Nunneley and Brown played Miss Marchant and Young irr the- semi-final of the Combined Doubles, and proved too stiong a combination for their opponents. The fin>t set went in their favour, 6—3;6 — 3 ; the second still more decisively by 6—l. The winners meet Miss Traver's and Salmond in the final. In the Junior Men's Doubles, Clark and EHer won the first set by 7 to 5, against Cornell and Duncan. Almost at the start of the ladies' singles between Miss Travers and Miss Nunneley, the latter had the misfortune to slip and sprain her ankle. Sho was able to resume after a few minutes, and in spite of the mishap she outplayed her opponent and won the first four games. Miss Travers managed to win the fifth game after a valiant effort — 4—l.4 — 1. Tho next game also went to her after a great rally — 4—2.4 — 2. Still playing » brilliant game, Miss T raver* won toe next game —4—3. The eighth game got up to deuce, her advantage being denre again, Miss Nunneley winning the game 5—3.5 — 3. The ninth game went to Mim Travers. She also won the tenth game, making the set five all. Brilliant play characterised the next two games, in which Miss Nunneley out-ganeralled her opponent, winning 7—5.7 — 5. The junior men's doubles was won ; by Cornell and Duncan, 7— 5., 7—5. Pearse beat M'Kerrow B—6,8 — 6, 6—l, and Ollivier beat S. N. Brown 6—3, 6—4. In the Men's Championship Doubles. Reading and Harraway beat Uren and Callender, and Pearse and Sinclair beat Wilson and Cowie. In the Ladies' Championship Singles, Miss Campbell beat Miss Lester 9—5 in the semi-final.
