AN AUCKLAND DEPUTATION.
A deputation from the Raglan County Council, consisting of Mr. B. Hewett (chairman) and Mr. Annandale, waited on the Prime Minister and the Minister of Public Works on Thursday, in reference to the proposed bridge over the Waikato River at Huntly. The bridge is expected to cost £10,000 — of which amount £2000 will be contributed by the coal companies operating on the western side of the Waikato River. A vote of £2500, on account, was placed in last, v«ar's Estimates for the work. Mr. W. F. Massey, Leader of the Opposition, introduced the deputation as member for the district. The deputation requested that tLe contribution expected from the Raglan County be reduced from £2000 to a lesser amount, on the ground that the people of the Raglan district would benefit to a very small extent by the construction of the proposed bridge. Sir Joseph Ward promised l<> consider the whole matter, and would in due course communicate the decision of the Government to the B»glan Count* Council.
