VICTORIA COLLEGE GOVERNORS.
MEETING OF BOARD. Last night.-" nieoling of the Victoria College Board of Governors was attended by Mr. J. Graham, M.P. (chairman), the Rev. W. A. Evans, and Messrs. H. F. yon Haast, A. R. Meek, J. G. W. Aitken, A. T. M'Ginnity, C. Watson. A. W. Hogg, M.P., R.'M'Callum, 1\ R. Fleming, and E. D. Bell. EXAMINATION FEES. With respect to the refunding of examination fees, the Finance Committee lecommended tho following regulation : — "That in no case shall fees paid for the college annual examination be refunded to candidates, but if a candidate is. unable, through sickness or other sufficient reason, to attend the examination, the fee paid be placed lo the candidate's credit for a future examination ; but ruch credit shall not be extended for more than two years. In the case of removal to another district the fee ehall be paid to the credit of the candidate at the college of the uiKtrict to which he moves, provided that he pus there for examination within two years.*' Speaking to the recommendation, Mr. M'Ginnity said that if there was adequata power to vary the regulation to avoid hardship, he would Kiipport it. He concideipd that the/*« should bt> power to remit the fee if a student left the ' Dominion. The chairman mentioned that no fees were remitted in England, and he could not see that there was any hardship in a New Zealand student loping a guinea. After further disctueion, it was moved by Mr. M'Ginnity that the operation of | the rule be withheld at tho council's discretion in exceptional circumstances. The motion was negatived, and the icport wat> adopted. THE LABORATORY. It was recommended by the Finance Committee that ProfersorKiik'B laboratory assistant's wages be increased ftoni 12s 6d to 15b a week. The request was approved.
