The health of the High Commissioner (Hon. W. Hall-Jones) has, according to cabled advices, been unsatisfactory of late. On Tuesday it was reported that .he had had another heart attack, but to-day it was reported that he was recovering. Messrs. H. Banfield and E. Phelan arrived by last night's express from Auckland. The former will represent the united furniture trades, and the latter the Auckland timber-workers at their respective conferences, which open on Monday next. Messrs. Phelan and Banfield also propose waiting upon tho Minister for Railways, with a view to obtaining an early train by which the worker 1 can reach the city from Onehunga, Penrose, and Otahuhu, and thus enable the workers residing in the abovimentioned districts to reach the city in time to start work at 7.30 o'clock. The final game in the crystalate cup billiard competition will be played at tho Wellington Cycling Club's rooms on Monday evening. Shoes suitable for cricket, tennis, and bowls are advertised by Messrs. R. Hannah and Co., Lambton-quay and Cuba-st. Tho Marguerite Assembly will conclude tho dancing class with a plain and fancy dress ball, to be held in tho Brooklyn Hall this evening.
