I ENTERTAINMENT -IN | WELLINGTON. I i Those delegates to the Chambers of ; Commerce of the Empire Congress who 1 found time, after the Sydney assembly, to visit New Zealand, reached Wellington yesterday. They were met on the arrival of the Maori by Mr. W. I G. Duthie (president) ..and Messrs. H. C. Tewsley, G. Shirtcliffe, and J. M'Lellan, of the Wellington Chamber of Qoramerce, and given ; a most cordial welcome to the capital city. i In the afternoon the visitors, with ! the exception of one or two, were taken out to the Upper Hutt in motor cars. Some of the cars reached the golf links, and the rain coming on others wont straight to Mr. John Dufehie's residence at Nai Nai, where all were hospitably entertained. Mr. P. Warnford-Davis (London) returned the thanks of the visitors to Mr. and Mrs. John Duthie and Mr. W. G. Duthie for their entertainment. Each lady of the party was presented with a magnificent bouquet 01 flowers by Mr. Duthie as the party loft Nai Nai for town. 1 Sun, sea, sky, and the bush did their best for picnicking Commerce to-day. The Duchess ran across to Day's Bay with the delegate's from overseas, who are under the kindly aegis of the Wellington Chamber to-day. With one of Wellington's best days, the excursionists had some pleasant hours. The chief feature of the outing, apart the unscheduled entertainment provided by tLj forest, was luncheon in the pavilion, with speeches to match. The party was due back in the city shortly after three o'clock. The Yorkshire Society is to meet the Yorkshire delegates at- the Royal Oak Hotel between 7.30 and 8 o'clock this evening, when Mr. T. M. Wilford, M.P., president, and other members will cordially welcome the big county's repre- i sentatives. To-morrow morning some of the guests will journey to Palmerston North, and others to Feilding, as guests of the local Chambers of Commerci?. They afterwards all join the Main Trunk express and reach Taumarunui to-mor-row night, going on to Rotorua next day. Hon. T. Mackenzie (Minister in chargo of the Tourist Department) and Mr. C. R. C. Robieson (director) will accompany the party from Wellington to Ro-__ torua. On Thursday the new Maori pa* at Whakarewarewa will be opened, and the Maoris are to assemble in large numbers for the purpose, finishing up with a big feast. The visitors will spend two whole days at Rotorua.
