COURT RETURNS. According to the Magistrate's Court quarterly returns for the period ending the 30th September, thete were 1181s male and 128 female persons taken into custody, summoned, or apvjrehended during that time. During 'the corresponding quarter of last year the figures wcrer 1328 males and 157 females. The annual conference of the New Zealand Baptist Union, will open- in tho Baptist Church, Vivian-street, Wellington, - next Wednesday afternoon, and will last a week. There will ba 110 delegntes — a record for the church iv Ne^y Zealand. Mr. A. S. Carey, of Christchurch, is this year's president. Messrs. A. L.
