To-day the completion of the Public Trust Office Building was marked by the payment of the balance of the contract money to Messrs. J. and A. Wilson, less the sum retained for maintenance. The penalties for being over the time, as provided by the contract, were unhesitatingly waived by the Public Trustee, as it was considered that the edifice being the first steel-framed build ing in New Zealand, it was in this respect unique, as also in respect to the granite used in its construction, which was the first stone taken from the quarry at Tonga Bay, Nelson. It may be mentioned that the delay in the completion was accounted for at the beginning by the failure of the company to leadily supply the stone. That difficulty was overcome .by the contractors themselves purchasing the quarry outright. The Colonial Office representatives — Sir Chas. Lucas and Mr. A- A. Pearson — axe to be entertained by the Ministers at luncheon at "Bellamy's" on Wednesday next. Mr. W. P. Healy advertises an auction sale of furnishing drapery, lace curtains, second-hand linoleum, etc., in his rooms, 95, Cuba-street, to-morrow afternoon, nt 2 o'clock.
