WORKERS' TRAINS. LOWER HUTT TO WELLINGTON.

Tho subject of the system of workers' trains between Lower Hutt and Wellington was again brought before the Minister of Rail wave (Hon. J. A. Millar) by Mr. T. M.* Wilford, M.P., this afternoon. There is now, Mr. Wilford pointed out, a train leaving the Hutt at 7.11 a.m. It. is called tho fa*t train, and only stops at Potone. This train is poorly patronised. There is another train leaving Ilutt at 7.19 a.m., which btops at all stnti6ns, and is overcrowded. He suggested that there should be a train leave Lower Hutt at 7.15 or 7.18 a.m., stopping everywhere,, and thai at about 7.30 there should be a fast train, arriving in Wellington about 10 minutes to 8. That, he urged, would effectually prevent the overcrowding that goes on at present. The duplicated line to Kaiv.arra would be open for traffic in a few days, and Ihe former Minister for Railways (Hon. W. Hall-Jones) had promised that when that time came there should be a reconsideration of the suburban service. He (Mr. Wilford) advocated the running of « steam motor bervice every 20 minutes, with carriages capable pf holding 70 passengers, such as have already been j greatly utilised in America, Germany, and Great Britain. The Minister said he was having estimates prepared of the cost of such a service, and would give Mr. Wilford's request his earnest consideration.
